Sitting at the foot of Kinder Scout (the highest point in the Peak District National Park) a new facilities block has been connstructed for Upper Booth farm camp site. It was of up most importance to the client that the building was visually sympathetic to the surrounding area and was built with sustainability in mind.
The building has been constructed to a high specification, in a contemporary style but using material such as larch and local stone to blend it in to its surroundings its roof line is curved to reflect the shape of the surrounding hills. The roof was waterproofed using a pre-formed hertalan EPDM sheet 1.2mm.
Hertalan waterproofing systems are ideal for this type of application due to the root resistance of the membranes and factory vulcanised joints and Hertalan's environmentally friendly credentials were an important factor in the client accepting the materials as being suitable for the project.
The green roof system specified by green on top contains deep growing medium to ensure the vegetation will not require irrigation or the application of fertilizers. The roof has been seeded with a blend of native grasses once established the roof should fit in to its surroundings very well.
Hertalan EPDM roofing systems
Hertalan develops, produces and sells unique EPDM of exceptionally high quality all over the world. Hertalan supplies several EPDM systems for various architectural applications based on these products and a range of clever accessories and application systems.
Hertalan EPDM membranes are root penetration-resistant and feature an FLL hallmark including our hot bonding process and hot air seam connection systems. The system can be fitted as a membrane (fewer seams during fitting, resulting in a reduced risk of leaks), will generally exceed the life span of the vegetation layer and EPDM is the most environmentally-friendly choice for being placed under the roof covering.
