In our home-country, the Netherlands, EPDM roofing has been re-assessed as the most sustainable roofing for flat roofs. For this, the total shadow costs of different mechanical fixed and adhered roofing systems has been analyzed.
In both systems, an EPDM roofing with a thickness of 1.2 mm has the lowest environmental impact and is classified in class 1a. With this EPDM roofing leaves traditional roof coverings behind. This impact is determined on the basis of the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) method. The most environmentally friendly product is classified in environmental class 1a: the environmental reference. Products that fall into environmental class 1 or 2 are eligible for the DUBOkeur®.
